How To Record Your Senior's Legacy

"In a hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove... but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child." Forest E. Witcraft

Leaving a positive and genuine legacy is very important to many seniors. They want future generations to learn about their lives, experiences, and ideals. They hope that future generations will learn from their example and somehow take something from their message. As we stand on the shoulders of previous generations, we are able to overcome the obstacles of the present.

With today’s innovations, many recordings and videos of seniors become a part of their legacy. We have the opportunity to record video, audio, take still pictures, and utilize other mediums so we can have a lasting image of our loved ones. Laughter, conversations, and stories told are permanently saved for future viewing of all generations. These recordings provide the proof of a life well lived. Expressions, voice enunciation, and mannerisms solidify the stories told about the elderly. The mere fact that they loved enough to be present revealed their commitment.

Some elderly donate to a worthy charity their whole life and their names appear on libraries, classrooms, buildings, and benches. To those who remember their good works, it is a fond memory of all the hard work they did to make a positive change. To those who did not have the opportunity to witness the good work of the elderly, stories and biographies are told with respect.

Many elderly document significant family events such as births, weddings, and deaths in order for future generations to have structure and identity. This simple act can help their great grandchildren to know who they were and how the family tree exists.

Finally, even if the senior has nothing to give but the love in his or her heart, it will become the most priceless legacy for all generations to come.

Caregivers and family members can make a special occasion out of "interviewing" a loved one of or helping them write their memoirs. It will help them feel special and appreciated in a big way.
